Double Olympic Gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, was at Queen Anne’s School in Caversham on October 11 to officially open the school’s new £2.9 million boarding house, designed by HLM.
Due to demand for places from London and surrounding areas, the school needed to increase its boarding provision. A state-of-the-art Lower Sixth House, Maddock House, the new Junior Boarding House is now home to over 70 girls aged 11-16.
The ultra-modern facilities include one, two and three bedded rooms, a large sitting room with patio doors leading into the garden, a kitchen/diner, a full computer suite and Wi-Fi throughout.
Dame Kelly spoke to the students about how they can achieve the best in life. She told them: “You can all have a dream and you can all say, ‘what I do now, I just want to be the best that I can be at it’. Achieving your goal takes hard work, dedication and a belief that you can do it.”
HLM was appointed as architects, interior designers and landscape architects for the provision of two new boarding houses in 2008. The first phase – Holmes House – completed in August 2011 providing 56 boarding places and which replaced an existing three storey block.
