HLM Architects has been shortlisted for the Architect of the Year Awards (AYA) in two categories: Best Architect Employer of the Year and Higher Education Architect of the Year. Organised by BD, the AYAs celebrate the best in architecture and honour overall achievement within the profession.
The Higher Education category rewards all-round design excellence and fitness for purpose. We have been shortlisted for our work at the University of St Andrews, where we are providing 400 new bedroom spaces across two sites as part of the largest expansion of student accommodation in St. Andrews for over a decade. In addition, for our design of the new James McCune Smith Learning Hub at the University of Glasgow and the £57 million Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Sheffield, which we won following a design competition.
The Best Architect Employer Award is new this year and is looking to highlight architectural practices that promote a high-quality work environment for their employees. It is particularly focused on career advancement opportunities, wellbeing, a healthy work life balance including flexible working, and equality.
Karen Mosley, managing director of HLM Architects, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for design excellence in one of our core sectors as well as for being a great employer. This shortlisting comes hot on the heels of the announcement that we were included in the Best 100 Small Companies to Work For list 2019.”
The results are announced on 1 May.
