Permission granted for Velindre Cancer Centre

20, December, 2017

An outline application for a new cancer care centre in Whitchurch, Cardiff was unanimously approved by Cardiff Council Planning committee on 13th December.

Velindre NHS Trust are transforming cancer services in south east Wales and providing a new state-of-the-art facility to provide specialist care to those with cancer.  As well as conference and research facilities, the proposed site will also include a Maggie’s Centre, which provides help and relief to cancer patients and carers.

HLM worked as masterplanners within the project team of specialists led by Mott MacDonald with Hassell.  The complexity of the application required an Environmental Statement including a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment by HLM, with further specialist assessments carried out by Mott MacDonald.

Gareth Woodfin, associate director of the HLM Cardiff design studio said: “Our masterplanning proposals ensure that the new cancer care facility will be sensitively integrated within the local community, and serve the needs of the Velindre NHS Trust and patients. HLM are very proud to be part of the Velindre project team for this important new centre of excellence.”
