HLM Become Fire Fighters For The Day
Date: 11th October 2011
The Architects and Project Managers responsible for the design and planning of the proposed new Community Fire Station in Omagh were put through their paces recently as they became ‘Firefighters' for the day.
Joining on-duty Firefighters at Omagh Station the team experienced life on a Fire Station as part of their consultation into the plans for a new integrated Community Fire Station and District Headquarters on the Killybrack Road, Omagh.
Steven Lennon, HLM, said - "The experience of ‘Firefighter for a Day' was especially valuable in gaining an understanding of all the different elements of a Firefighter's working day. We now have a greater understanding of a Fire Station and its operations beyond a process diagram. We appreciate which areas impact most on both Firefighters and visitors to the Station on a day-to-day basis, and which features and facilities increase productivity, improve their amenity and deliver end user satisfaction, while also promoting health & safety and learning.
"Lorraine McMorrow, a member of the HLM team, experienced the Station from a female Firefighter's perspective, learning how the environment works for them and how best to respond to these needs in the design."
