Sheffield Charity Construction Ball Raises £15,0000
Date: 25th May 2011
The Sheffield Charity Construction Ball has raised £15,000 for The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, whose invaluable work supports the work of Weston Park Hospital, one of three dedicated cancer hospitals in the country.
Organised by HLM and Arup, The Sheffield Charity Construction Ball is the longest running industry event in the North and brings the region's construction sector together annually for an evening of superb entertainment, while raising money for local charities. The event, which has raised more than £150,000 for charity over 11 years, has grown significantly and is now well established, attended by key figures from prominent businesses across the region.
Held at Mercure St Paul's Hotel in Sheffield City Centre on 20 May, this year's event saw 250 guests attend. The evening kicked off with a drinks reception in the Winter Gardens, followed by a three-course dinner with live entertainment provided by the Stunt Doubles. Another highlight included a chance for guests to 'crack the safe' to win a sparkling, sterling silver bracelet donated by jewellers Leslie Cass.
The Weston Park Hospital treats over 6,000 newly diagnosed patients every year, who come from across South Yorkshire, the UK and overseas. The charity raises funds to support research, improve treatments and to care for people living with cancer.
The event was sponsored by construction and facilities company Vinci Construction, BIM and architectural software developer Graphisoft, construction recruitment agency Linear Recruitment and commercial law firm Nabarro.
Nick Beecroft, director at HLM said:
"The evening was a fantastic success and we are delighted that The Sheffield Charity Construction Ball has raised such a significant amount of money for The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, to support its tremendous work. We would like to extend our thanks to all the individuals who attended and the companies that generously supported the event with donations, and sponsorship."
Rachel Thorpe, charity director at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity said:
"We cannot thank HLM and Arup enough for their incredible support. This year's Construction Ball truly was a glittering event and here at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity we are both thrilled and grateful to be the charity chosen to benefit. The £15,000 raised is a massive sum of money and very much needed to help us fund Cancer Research and Cancer Treatments and Care here at Weston Park."
