St Dunstan's House, Fetter Lane is a prestigious, high specification residential development for Taylor Wimpey in the City of London. The scheme provides 76 luxury private apartments, residents' lounge and library, landscaped courtyard in a historic setting, basement parking and concierge facilities.
The development is set within a highly sensitive context with adjacent Grade I Listed Buildings and Conservation Area; the use of contemporary architecture through the use of high quality stone facades to reflect the character of the adjacent Listed Kings College London Library has been utilised creating a coherent 'place'. HLM worked carefully with a working group from Kings College, in a process which informed the design at all stages.
This new building positively contributes to the setting of the adjacent Listed Buildings and an enhanced public realm around the site improves the legibility of movement around the wider site. New protected, high quality amenity spaces have been created for both residents and the College.
HLM's Development Sector Team's specialist skills added substantial value to a previous planning consent, reconfiguring the accommodation to deliver optimum value and efficiency. HLM's reconfiguration of the scheme, which was consented when our Client acquired the site, created larger units at the upper levels increasing the sales value per square foot overall. The introduction of 'triplexes' at roof level ensured optimum amenity provision and panoramic views across London
A very high standard of energy performance was achieved, in part, through the use of the heavy mass of concrete frame and stone cladding as well as the extensive use of green roofs for amenity and management of storm water.
This scheme brings sustainable living to the area, also creating improved vibrancy and place to the local area.
