Penarth Learning Community SEN

Incorporating St Cyres Comprehensive School and the nearby SEN schools of Ashgrove, Erw'r Delyn and Maes Dyfan in the Vale of Glamorgan. Penarth Learning Community is essentially a community of three interlinked schools.

HLM are providing architectural, landscape and interior design services with the aim of achieving a BREEAM excellent rating. We are embracing design principles that will allow pupils to realise their full learning potential whilst creating stronger community links with local residents and neighbouring schools.

The new secondary school unites the lower school in Dinas Powys with the existing upper school on one site reducing the traffic flow between the two sites throughout the school day. The Vale of Glamorgan also seeks to incorporate the educational opportunities of co-locating the two nearby SEN schools and Maes y Dyfan in Barry with main stream secondary education; and so create a fully inclusive learning community.

Traffic management throughout the day will be improved both for the local residents and for the staff and pupils. One primary aim is to improve the arrival and pick up of the SEN pupils ensuring an enjoyable start and end to the school day.
