University of Strathclyde, Colville Building
Discipline: Architecture
Client: University of Strathclyde
A feasibility study for the redevelopment of the Colville Building involving the complete refurbishment of the building including the replacement of all of the existing services, replacement of windows, cladding, roofs and the renewal of all internal finishes. The study was based upon a Masterplanning exercise completed by HLM, Ove Arup and Storrier & Donaldson and examined the proposals outlined in the JAAC zone masterplan and considered these against the impact of the SRIF2 physics specialist research facility project being implemented before the masterplan programme is in place.
The new building provides a quality environment of teaching and research with the capability to fully control the internal environment. The services design has been zoned to allow for heavily serviced operation to the lab areas and for natural ventilation to the office areas. The study included proposals for the use of natural ventilation and highlighted structural / spatial / construction constraints and opportunities to proposed projects and developments.
