Wathwood Medium Secure Unit

The design of this Medium Secure Unit creates basic ward clusters which consist of small groups of rooms around a central living area. The core of each ward has a living/dining/therapy area, which contains central naturally lit gathering spaces, wall features and detail lighting. The bedrooms which contain en-suite shower facilities, are spacious with a domestic feel. At the centre of the ward blocks is a large open room which, with its sound proof folding screen, office, store and utility areas, can be used flexibly for a variety of therapeutic users.

The Administration Building provides adequate office accommodation for members of the multi-disciplinary team. Towards the rear of the development is a swimming pool, gymnasium and sports hall with associated changing rooms and ancillary areas. Extensive tree and shrub planting in and around the unit complement the adjacent mature woodland and open field pattern.
