Van Rooyen Residence
Discipline: Architecture
On this terraced site overlooking Pretoria golf course, our client wanted a low-maintenance home.
We designed a slightly curved concrete wall to obscure sound from the road, but incorporated a picture window towards one end to draw visitors in. The living spaces are accessed from the main entrance and form the middle level of the three-storey building, opening up to a balcony with views to the north. The top level houses the main bedroom, creating a small penthouse feel with private balconies offering views to the east and north.
The lower level of the house links directly to the garden areas and garage. A lap-length swimming pool sits perpendicular to the building, separating the guest and servants' quarters from the children's rooms. A timber boardwalk at the sides of the pool creates a floating effect.
