Division Street Fire Station Conversion, Sheffield

Discipline: Architecture

Client: Linpave Building

Extensive refurbishment and extension of the former Central Fire Station in Sheffield to provide residential accommodation for Northern Counties Housing Association.  The brief was to maximise the potential site area to provide flexible accommodation capable of housing both Housing Association tenants or students, and to include supporting facilities.  The former fire engine hall was to be converted by others into a themed bar.  A large proportion of the flats are designed to Sheffield City Council's mobility standards and disabled parking has been provided within the courtyard.

As part of the "Percent for Art" element, three specially commissioned poems by Benjamin Zaphaniah are permanently mounted as part of the window balustrading design.
