Kirklands Office Building

Kirklands Office Building

Discipline: Environment

HLM Environment led the team to first produce a Strategic Brief outlining high level considerations and to develop proposals which would lead to solutions that:

Provide an exemplar building embodying the principles of low energy sustainable design achieved efficiently, economically and in a visually successful way.

Achieved a C02 emissions benchmark of 20kg/m2/yr or less and an 'Excellent' rating under BREEAM Office 2008

Contribute significantly towards NHS Lanarkshire's Carbon Reduction

Provided on-site low/zero carbon energy systems and power generation

A reduced water consumption

The design created glare free, daylight workspaces without the normal problems of excessive solar gain during the summer months. This is achieved through a unique façade design with undulating windows that face either north east or northwest, providing both passive and active control of daylight, as well as the natural ventilation and links with the outside world.

In maximising the use of natural means, the internal spaces have been zoned according to heating, cooling (if required), ventilation and lighting requirements.
