The New Victoria Hospital in Glasgow is a new facility which treats 400,000 patients annually through integrated diagnostic and treatment services.

The triple height main entrance provides a distinctive public space as you enter the building. Coloured glass panels, part of the integrated healing arts strategy, compliment the neutral colour palette, with timber panelling linking the interior with the adjacent courtyard. The interior design within this space gives the building an identity which is continued throughout the building.

The simplistic interior colour scheme provides each floor with its own colour and is an important part of the wayfinding strategy. Visitors become aware which department is located on which floor and can associate their relevant destination with a colour.

Detailed healthcare planning within the medical areas is accessed by circulatory and waiting areas which benefit from vast amounts of natural daylight. As the design progressed, strong relationships between the external and internal spaces developed, further enhancing the therapeutic, healing environment and at the same time responding to the brief.

Directly off the main hospital street, waiting areas for the surgeries are comfortable and spacious. Bespoke staff bases are clearly visible and the design detail is maintained in all joinery items throughout. This continuity links all the spaces and provides visitors with a familiarity which subconsciously assists wayfind around the building.
