Defence Training College - Corridor Study

HLM's team have worked extensively on the masterplan process for the redevelopment of St Athan airbase into the new tri-service defence training facility. As part of this project a landscape and urban design assessment and development mitigation study was completed to assess the design impact and coordination of the new access road, residential communities and facility buildings being coordinated within this local area.

The corridor study was presented to the Design Council for Wales as a requirement for submitting a planning application to Vale of Glamorgan in 2009. The study involved the examination of permeability and accessibility across this large scale redevelopment, taking account of the sensitive landscape character areas and identifying the mitigation required to ensure the infrastructure and built form created a coherent streetscape that would served the local community.
