Woolwich New Civic HQ

HLM have been appointed by the London Borough of Greenwich to design their new contemporary Civic Headquarters Offices in the Centre of Woolwich. The facility comprises 18,000sqm providing civic office facilities, local service centres, a public library, business centre and public open space. The design integrates with an overall masterplan for Woolwich responding to context, scale and fabric of the local environment.

The concept improves the transparency and accessibility to the council's service though becoming more open to and connected with the public realm. Clear way-finding principles guide the visitor experience from the public realm into the building though the use of a clear built form and hard landscape. High quality materials provide a robust environment, appropriate to the highly public nature of these key spaces. The entire building is designed as a fully inclusive environment for all, catering for the needs of the elderly and disabled users.
