Our Sheffield studio is the oldest and largest of HLM’s studios, buzzing with creativity and collaboration. Our local team is deeply proud of our city, our work, and one another.

Sheffield Studio, HLM Architects

Located in the heart of the city, our Sheffield studio has been delivering better places for the communities of our region since the early 1980s.

We have a great team in Sheffield – talented and enthusiastic designers and creative thinkers sit alongside our invaluable support teams for the whole business. Our workplace has a unique, collaborative atmosphere.  Visitors enjoy a  lively creative buzz, music, and a warm welcome in a space that reflects our passion and pride.

We’re proud of our deep roots in Sheffield’s creative and construction community.

Our studio is located near several prominent cultural landmarks – the world-famous Crucible and Lyceum theatres, the central library, the town hall and the beautiful peace gardens. We draw inspiration from this rich architectural heritage and landscape. We love the strong local connections and the opportunity to contribute to the region’s evolving built environment.

Just a stone’s throw from our studio stands one of our most recently completed – and most cherished – projects: the Radisson Blu. This development holds a special place in our hearts, as it plays a key role in the Heart of the City regeneration initiative.

We’re passionate about giving back and fostering a strong sense of community through collaboration, celebration, and charitable initiatives.

Our Studio Connect Days not only bring colleagues together, they also create meaningful opportunities to raise funds for causes close to our hearts, including local cancer charities, homelessness support, and mental health organisations.

We actively support and co-organise the renowned Sheffield Charity Construction Ball, and our team regularly takes part in fundraising activities such as running and cycling events in the beautiful Sheffield hills. Specific charities we actively support include Bright Young Dreams, the Poppy Appeal and the annual Shoebox appeal.

We proudly celebrate significant moments like World Mental Health Day, where we invite colleagues to pause, reflect, and engage in open conversations with peers – recognising the importance of mental wellbeing in the workplace.

Our commitment to social impact is led by our Director of Social Inclusion,  , based in the Sheffield studio, who continuously explores new ways for us to contribute to local causes. Most recently, we partnered with Sheffield City Council, the Voice and Influence Team and SYMCA to help shape a new strategy aimed at improving employment opportunities for young people in the region.

Together, we’re building more than just spaces – we’re building a culture of care, inclusion, and community impact.
